Designing With What Is There

Existing conditions can become the strongest part of a renovation when they are treated as design material.

Renovation work is a process of editing. The question is not simply what can be added, but what already has value and what needs to change for the house to work better.

That can mean preserving a structural rhythm, exposing a view that was always there, or reusing a constraint as an organizing device.

The most satisfying transformations often feel less like replacement and more like revealing the house it was capable of becoming.
